Berkmar High School student arrested following fight
| MyFox Atlanta |
MyFox Atlanta
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. (MyFOX ATLANTA) - Gwinnett County school officials said Tuesday that a violent fight last Friday at Berkmar High School sent one ...
Berkmar High School in Lilburn is having some challenges keeping students in the mindset for learning. Recently, the principal had to suspend all student's privilege to the cafeteria due to ongoing food fights. I think it's a great idea - the students will eat lunch in their 5th period classrooms. They'll have healthy lunches, but limited choices of what they can eat...and of course, they won't get to sit with their friends.
Unfortunately, the majority of the school population is having to pay for the issues of the few - and those who instigated this are not going to be very popular with the rest of the students. I'm all for using peer pressure and natural consequences to teach students that disrespectful behavior won't be tolerated in our schools. We don't pay taxes so kids can be unappreciative little jerks. We pay taxes so we can have an educated population.
I only hope that parents of the 'non-trouble' kids won't complain and want this plan revoked. Sorry your kid is affected by this, but please allow school administrators to enforce discipline to help all our children learn about life! Sometimes life isn't fair, and we all are harmed by the 'crimes' of others.

Honest officer, I just kept the vehicle
[an officer] ran the tag on a Chevrolet Tahoe and it came back as stolen out of DeKalb County during a carjacking. The carjacker was armed with a shotgun.
The driver claimed the car had been parked in his apartments in Lilburn for over a month with the keys inside.
He said he couldn’t resist the temptation and began driving the vehicle. He gave valuable information on the original crime and other crimes. We charged him with theft by receiving of the vehicle and turned the case over to DeKalb County.

- Detectives are continuing the investigation of reported abuse to a two year-old. The parents took the child to Emory Eastside Medical Center; then transferred him to Scottish Rite Hospital. While some of the apparent injuries are explained by medical conditions, an expert at Scottish Rite Hospital believes some of them to be consistent with abuse. The child is developmentally disabled as well, further hampering the investigation. Charges are expected soon against the baby sitter.
- Several Officers assisted Gwinnett County with a Burglary in Progress at Magill Elementary, with a possible Burglary in Progress on Grayson Parkway near North Crestview and with the track of a suspect who fled from Gwinnett officers on foot south of Everson after a traffic stop.
Identity thieves need bedding too
Snellville Police News
From Snellville January Monthly Report:
An officer with Homeland Security contacted us advising that someone had stolen his identity and had been using it to open credit accounts all over the country for the past five years. The officer received notification that a credit card in his name was used to purchase a mattress in Snellville.
We contacted the mattress store and learned that the man was coming the next day to pick up the mattress. Our officers placed the parking lot under surveillance and one investigator posed as a salesperson. Our investigator spoke with the man and told him to drive to the rear of the store and the mattress would be loaded. Officers took him into custody without incident.
Officers located several other forms of identification for many victims inside the perpetrator’s truck. During the interview, he confessed to using the same identity in Texas and other locations. Numerous charges are pending and the Secret Service has been notified.
Snellville Wachovia Bank robbery
Snellville Police News
From Snellville January Monthly Report:
We responded to a bank robbery at the Wachovia Bank on Scenic Highway. The perpetrator gave the teller a note demanding money. She placed the money in a bag along with a dye pack. As the robber crossed the Wal-Mart parking lot, the dye pack exploded. He disappeared from view around the corner of the building.
Investigators determined the same man robbed a bank a Cobb County. While trying to identify the perpetrator, the man robbed another bank in Dunwoody. A DeKalb County police officer observed a suspicious man running from the Bank of American and took him into custody. Before we could confirm it was the same suspect, he was released on bond from the DeKalb County Jail. Armed with our arrest warrant, we went to his residence in Gwinnett County.
While waiting on approval from the Gwinnett P.D. supervisor, we observed the suspect leaving the residence. He was taken into custody without incident. Once his lawyer arrived, he gave a videotaped confession to all three robberies. The man admitted that he flushed all the money from our robbery because the dye pack exploded on it. He was afraid this would lead to his capture.
