About 18 pounds of the club drug Ecstasy was seized from a car at the Peace Bridge on Sunday, U. S. Customs &Border Protection officials reported.
Miquel Latoya Smith, 36, of Snellville, Ga., faces felony drug smuggling charges filed by the U. S. attorney’s office.
Customs officers seized more than 25,000 Ecstasy tablets from a hidden compartment in the rear end of Smith’s car after she sought to enter the United States from Canada, Chief Kevin Corsaro said.
Corsaro estimated the street value of the seized drugs at $500,000. He said Smith told authorities she was returning to the U. S. after visiting family in Toronto.
Agents from U. S. Immigration& Customs Enforcement also are working on the case.
